Friday, February 10 – Trip to NC Museum of History. 5 East Edenton St, Raleigh, NC
History of NC for 10,000 years, Thomas Day exhibit, new NC exhibits, NC Sports Hall of Fame, etc. Tour 10 – 11, then browse on your own. Lunch where you choose at Farmers’ Market. Leave church at 9 AM. – return by 3?
Wednesday, March 14 – Tour Ackland Art Museum, Chapel Hill, NC101 South Columbia Street, 966-5736. Free. Leave at 9 AM. Return by 2:30? Meet at new Museum store at 10 AM.; docent tour at 10:30. Tour Coordinator Caroline 962-3342. Exhibition from 14th of Jan. through March 18th “Spectacular of Vernacular” – rustic, folkloric art. 40 works by some 2 dozen contemporary artists (some will be wild!) Permanent collection, small NC Pottery collection. Lunch at Top of the Hill – 100 East Franklin St. 929-8676. Sandwiches, salads, entrees like jambalaya, clams, desserts etc. Elevator to 3rd floor.
Wednesday, April 18 – Tour of West Campus at Duke University with the new university Archivist, Valerie Gillespie. Includes History of Duke, the architecture. Wear good walking shoes. Free tour 10:30 AM – 12. Music performance in chapel at noon. Then lunch on Duke Campus, maybe at Duke Divinity School Restaurant. Leave at 10:00AM ; return by 2?
Wednesday, May 16 – Trip to Seagrove, NC., to see 4 pottery places and tour Seagrove Orchids. Leave 8 AM, return by 4? Seagrove, NC, is south of Asheboro. There are 171 potters scattered in the area. Go to potters in the morning. Lunch at Seagrove Family Restaurant – 8702 US Highway 220 S. 336-873-7789
Res. At 11:15 before lunch crowd comes in. Reasonable prices, good country food. Seagrove Orchids 3451 Brower Mill Road, Seagrove. 336-879-6677 More than 200 different species. Open Tuesday – Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM. Tour with Linda, owner, about 1:30 – 2.
Wednesday, June 20 – Thursday, June 21 – Overnight Trip to Boone, NC.
Go to Mast General Store, Blowing Rock nearby. We plan to eat at Daniel Boone Inn Restaurant Wednesday night, about $13 for family style dinner- veg. soup, country style steak, slaw, fried chicken, several desserts, etc. Cash only. Loc. at 130 Hardin St., Boone 28607. 828-264-8657. Often 30 minute wait. Go to outdoor drama “Horn in the West” about Revolutionary War on Wed. night. Tickets are $18. (Thanks, Gayle). Nadine is checking on other activities in the area. Jerry made reservations at Holiday Inn Express –they are $101.50 for 2 queen beds(breakfast included). Leave church by 8:30AM Wed. Return Thursday by 5 or later.
