Bradley Naylor, Minister of Music

Bradley Naylor, Minister of MusicBradley Naylor has been Minister of Music at Duke Memorial since September of 2010.  As Minister of Music, he oversees all of the musical events in the life of the church: he directs the Sanctuary Choir and Wesley Singers children’s choir, works with co-pastor Roger Owens in the planning of congregational music for worship, and coordinates with the lay leaders of the Bethany Bells and Sacred Dance groups as they prepare music and dance for worship.  Bradley looks forward to including more instrumental music in worship, as well as the September 4th, 2011 kickoff of the  Youth Ensemble for musicians from 6th to 12th grade.

Prior to his appointment at Duke Memorial, Bradley was a temporary visiting assistant professor of choral music at the University of Georgia.  He holds graduate degrees in choral conducting from Yale University’s School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music, Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, and a bachelor’s degree in music from Brown University.  He maintains a career as a choral conductor, teacher, and tenor, and sings in the Choral Society of Durham, the Vocal Arts Ensemble, and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.  He is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts.

Outside of his musical undertakings, Bradley is an avid baseball fan and ultimate Frisbee player.  His wife Elizabeth is a dermatology resident at Duke Hospital.  They have two young children: Abby and Luke.
